My Everyday Makeup for Uni

You might have seen that at the beginning of the month, I headed back to university after a year out to train as a teacher. I was really excited about heading back to uni, but I've been out of the student way of life for a while - bit daunting. In honour of the start of uni, I thought I'd have a rummage through my makeup drawer and pick out some bits to wear as my "everyday" makeup.

The Body Shop Skincare

If you saw my post on the #DareToMask event at the beginning of the month, you'll have seen that I recently attended an event with The Body Shop at West Quay to celebrate the launch of their new face masks. As part of that event, we were given one-to-one skin consultations. Obviously, once I'd been given the correct guidance and shown the ranges that would be best for my skin, I may have done a spot of shopping.

September Book Haul

I'm sure you know by now that I love a good book, and popping to Waterstones and browsing the shelves, and normally come out with a book or two. Or five, in this case. I really like seeing what books other people are buying at the moment, and adding them to my wishlist, so I think I'll start including a few more book posts here. Now let's get down to the books.

September Boots Haul

It's been a while since I really explored the displays at my local Boots beauty hall, so on a recent solo trip into town, I took my time to really peruse the counters, and pick up a few new items. There had been some new launches that I wanted to try, and a couple of products that had been around for a while but that I wanted to pick up. The damage to my bank card was impressive, but it provides the perfect topic for today's post.

SotonBloggers Freakshakes Event

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you'll have probably seen that at the beginning of September, I met up with a group of the SotonBloggers at Orange Rooms, for an afternoon of chatting, selfies and delicious Freakshakes, and I'm sharing the experience here today.

Sephora Italy Haul

How do you know your bestie really is a keeper? When she fully understands the draw of a Sephora, and brings you home a bag of goodies from her trip to Italy. And that's exactly what Ashleigh did for me this summer - so lovely of you babe! I was so excited when I dove into the bag, and wanted to share the contents of the bag with you here today.

Lush Oxford Street Haul

A trip up to London would not be complete for any beauty lover without a trip to Lush Oxford Street right? With all those exclusive products, and the many floors of Lush goodness, it's just irresistible. So it's come as no surprise that I have come home with a little bag full of goodies to share with you today.

The Plain White Tee OOTD

Dressing for an event can be tricky, especially if, like me, you're not a fashionista. It can take me a good while trying different combinations on before settling on a suitable outfit. It happened before the SotonBloggers Freakshake event (blog post on that coming soon), and I actually really liked what I wore, and thought I'd share my outfit details with you today.

Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips

I can't seem to take a trip to London without stopping off in Selfridges. And when I wander the beauty hall of Selfridges, I seem to end up at Charlotte Tilbury, with a lipstick in hand. And last week was no different. The counter were celebrating the launch of Charlotte's new fragrance, but my attention was focused on the Hot Lips Collection, and I knew one would be coming home with me.

#DareToMask Launch with The Body Shop

Last week, I was invited to The Body Shop at West Quay to celebrate the launch of their new collection of face masks. I love visiting The Body Shop for my bath time needs, but I rarely look at their skincare offerings. So when I had the chance to hear more about these face masks, and see what they had to offer, I gladly headed down for an evening of fun and face masks with the some of the lovely sotonbloggersAnna and Chloe.

August Favourites

Somehow, another month has come to an end, and September is upon us. And while I have loved the summery days we've had recently, I'm secretly looking forward to Autumn - the layered clothing and the dark lips. However, there have been some makeup favourites that I've loved throughout August. I've discovered a few new favourites, maintained a few loves, and rediscovered a few golden oldies, and thought I'd share them here today.

Solent University Conference Centre OOTN

If you saw Monday's post, you'll have seen that I attended the grand opening of the Solent University Conference Centre last week. I had a really fun evening, but one of the best bits for me was the opportunity to get all dressed up, and I thought I'd share my outfit for the night with you today.

Grand Opening of the Solent University Conference Centre

If you follow me on Instagram (you can find me here), you might have seen that last Thursday I attended the Grand Opening for the Solent University Conference Centre as a member of the SotonBloggers. I didn't go to university in my home town, but the opportunity to have a nosey round was too good an opportunity to pass up, especially as I got the chance to dress up and spend the evening with my favourite bloggers.

#SEVENTEENBloggerNetwork Event with Katie Snooks

Having the opportunity to meet with brands and other bloggers has always been something I've loved since starting my blog, so when the email invitation to an event with SEVENTEEN dropped into my inbox, I jumped at the chance. So last week, Anna and I jumped on a train, and made our way to London for an evening of makeup and blogging chat.

Current Skincare Saviours

We all know that I am not a skincare guru, or anything like that, but recently I have been trying to be kinder to my skin, and dip my toe into the skincare game. Much to my bestie Ashleigh's delight I'm sure - she loves a bit of skincare! I thought I'd share my current products with you, to share what I'm loving.

My Summer Scent - Chanel Coco Mademoiselle

You might have seen that back in March I guest posted for Alice about my favourite spring perfumes. Now, I've got a new favourite, so I thought I'd share my summer scent with you. I've had my eye on a new perfume for a while, and when the chance came to treat myself, I headed straight to John Lewis, and my local Chanel counter.

Space NK Haul

Being from Southampton, I don't get to visit Space NK as often as I like (although, the Winchester store has just opened, which is much more easily accessible). So, on a trip up to my old stomping ground of Guildford, who have a store, I had to pop in and see what I could come home with.

Lush Happy Daze

If you follow me on Instagram (you can find me here if you don't), you'll have seen that last month I left my job at my local hospital in preparation for my return to university. On my last day, the team were kind enough to send me off with some gifts, including this Lush Happy Daze gift box. They know me so well! I thought I'd share the contents on here today - we're all Lush fans here right?

Superdrug Haul

Now I'm definitely a Boots girl at heart, it's always been my drugstore of choice. But sometimes I just get that pull towards a Superdrug, and when I do, I tend to get spendy. Oops. I don't know if it's the different environment, or the slightly different range of brands and products, but I go in once and while and my purse comes out. That's what happened recently, so I thought I'd share what I picked up here today.

Bobbi Brown Retouching Face Pencils

You might have realised by now that I'm a big fan of Bobbi Brown makeup. Some of my first high-end purchases were Bobbi Brown items, and I am always looking for new products to try. An exciting release from the brand this month are the Retouching Face Pencils. I'd seen them online, and I'd become obsessed with watching BB Pro Artist Hannah (find her on Instagram here) posting about them. So, when the bestie Ash told me our local counter had them and that I would love them, I headed into town for a swatch... and a spend.

ghd Electric Pink

August 1st saw the launch of ghd's Electric Pink Collection in support of Breast Cancer research, and to celebrate I was invited along to my local ghd counter in John Lewis Southampton to meet with Kara and Katelin for a session about all things hair.

July Beauty Favourites

I haven't done a monthly favourites post in what seems like forever, but as I tried and tested a few new items this month, some of which I completely fell in love with, I thought I'd share some favourite products with you today.

July Instagram Roundup

Somehow, another month has come to an end, and we're officially into August. July was another busy one for me, with some events to go to, and me leaving my job for my new journey into teaching. I really enjoy these look-backs into my life, and hope you do too.

Kylie Lip Kit - Koko K

Anybody who's even remotely interested in the beauty world is aware of the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit hype. Arguably one of the most influential celebs of our generation (let's face it, her influence goes far and wide), you can see why and how much people love her and her lip kits. They've been slightly (okay, really) difficult to get hold of, and I've been envious of everyone who's tweeted or Instagrammed about getting one. But, one lucky evening I had my laptop, my phone on Snapchat and my debit card to hand when Kylie announced her latest launch, and I finally got one - hallelujah! Koko K is finally mine after months of yearning, and I thought I'd share it with you today!

My Week In Lipsticks

Today is National Lipstick Day, and in celebration, I thought I would share with you all the lip products I've worn last week. I try and mix up my lip products throughout the week, with a mix of sheers and mattes, brights and nudes, glosses and lipstick. I thought this would be a nice way to see what I'm wearing at the moment, and to let you know about any recent favourites.

Mix & Mask with Origins and British Beauty Blogger

I’m a big fan of Jane from British Beauty Blogger, and always trust her recommendations. I’m also a great lover of Origins Skincare, so when I saw that the two were collaborating on the Mix and Mask Box, I was all over it. A box of skincare goodies curated by one of my favourite bloggers? Sign me up. When I saw the release announcement, I grabbed my debit card and placed my order - I mean, how could I not? And now that it’s here, I thought I’d share the box’s contents with you, and let you know what I’m looking forward to trying.

The Procrastinating Beauty Blogger Tag

My lovely friend Charlotte over at charlotteslife93.com posted her attempt at The Procrastinating Beauty Blogger Tag earlier this week, and I really enjoyed reading it, so I thought I'd give it a go myself. I love a good tag, giving nosy old me a sneak peek into other people's habits. I hope you enjoy this one.

Kylie Jenner for Sinful Colors

I'm a big Kar-Jenner fan, and anything those girls put their name to, has me hooked. I'd heard of the Kylie Jenner collaboration with Sinful Colors, I knew I'd have to try out a couple. I only spotted them in Walgreens at the end of my holiday to Florida (by which point, my spending money had depleted dramatically, sob), and I thought my opportunity had passed. But, the excitement was real when I was browsing my local Superdrug and there was a little display. Hallelujah! So obviously, for the purposes of LifeLoveLexie, I had to pick some up, right?

Monday, 18 July 2016

Boots Haul

Now we all know it’s nigh on impossible to head into Boots and not buy anything, especially if you’re a beauty addict like me. So on a recent trip into town, I wasn’t surprised that I accumulated a little basket of goodies, and here I am with a good old Boots Haul for you.

Current Obsession - Fat Mascara

I can’t say that podcasts have ever been something that was on my radar. On my iPhone, it was an app I never opened, and I knew very little about them. I didn’t think there’d be anything of interest to me. Man, was I wrong? Cue Ashleigh, my bestie, and another spot on recommendation. Fat Mascara. Two words I never thought I would put together in a sentence. But type those two words into the search tool on your Podcast app, and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Monday, 11 July 2016

Book Haul

Anyone that knows me knows how much I love books. I mean, I studied English Lit at uni so I had to like reading, but even now I’ve always got a book on the go, and buying books is something of an addiction. So on a recent trip to Waterstones, I wasn’t surprised to come out with a big bagful of books, and I thought I’d share my purchases with you today.

June Instagram Roundup

Somehow another month has come to an end, and we are officially into July. What better way to look back on the month than by taking a look at my Instagram, and see what I got up to throughout the month. There’s been a blog relaunch, cocktails, events and plenty of time with friends, so plenty to have a little look through.

Elizabeth Just 16 Blog Tour

If you read my Favourite Books of 2015, you might have an idea of the sorts of novels I usually read. Obviously, being an English Literature student, I have read a relatively wide-range of fiction, but as a general rule I tend to stick to chick-lit, beachy reads. When the email introducing Elizabeth Just 16 by Cecelia Paul dropped into my inbox, my interest was piqued, and I quickly signed up to the blog tour. Literature is a powerful tool, and used correctly it can help raise awareness for important, difficult situations. Cecelia Paul has done just that.

Walt Disney World Dining

Eating well on holiday can often be a little tricky, especially when you’re travelling to somewhere like Walt Disney World, where you’re relying on a lot of convenience food. As I had a Disney Dining Plan as part of my booking I thought I’d share some of the delicious food I ate while I was away.

Woops, Another Sephora Haul

You’ve probably seen that I took a little trip to Sephora while on holiday in Florida. But when my bestie Ash mentioned that she’d be making an order, I went straight back to my wishlist. Like any store, there were items I wanted to get while I was in the States, that I thought I could add to the basket, as well as another colour of a liquid lipstick that I had just fallen in love with.

Peanuts and Eggcups by Sara Mendes de Costa

I've been lucky enough to be invited to take part in the Blog Tour for Sara Mendes de Costa's new novel Peanuts and Eggcups. When the email invitation popped up in my inbox, I was super intrigued by the novel, and jumped at the opportunity to take part in the blog tour. Today, I'm sharing my thoughts on the novel, as well as a short extract from Peanuts and Eggcups, to hopefully tempt you into picking this up too.

Walt Disney World 2016 Haul

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll probably know that this April, I went on a family holiday to Walt Disney World. And if there was one thing I was particularly looking forward to when I was out there, it was the shopping. I love a bit of Disney merchandise, so having it all in one place was just the dream. I knew I’d come home with plenty of bits and bobs, and I thought I’d share what I picked up. There's quite a bit, so grab yourself a drink and a snack, and we'll get started.

A Michael Kors Treat

As soon as I walked through the doors of the Michael Kors store at the Orlando InternationalPremium Outlets, I knew I’d walk out with something. I probably would’ve been quite content with a keyring in all honesty, just to say I’d shopped there. But of course, once I started wandering around, I fell in love with so many items, before setting my eyes on this beauty.

#Blogival - The Anti-Ageing Food & Fitness Plan

As my final post as part of the Clink Street Summer Blogival, I'm sharing a little Question and Answer session with Rick Hay, the author of The Anti-Ageing Food and Fitness Plan. Offering the opportunity to "tune up, tone up and rev up with an inspired but easy-to-follow twelve-week healthy eating plan that unlocks the remarkable power of superfoods, and high-intensity exercises, for all fitness levels." Now I'm intrigued by the opportunity to improve my physical well-being, and want to learn more, so I jumped at the opportunity to pick the author's brains.

Review - L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation

When the hype for the new foundation release from L’Oreal first started, I was a little apprehensive. A foundation cushion? How does that even work? I put off trying it because I was sure that it wouldn’t suit my skin type or foundation preferences. But when I finally headed into Boots and gave it a little swatch, I was more than pleasantly surprised.

Springtime OOTD

We all know that dressing for spring in the U.K. can be rather tricky. You want to whack out all the summery clothes, but you can’t go out without a jacket, tights, an umbrella. So when we sotonbloggers got together to celebrate Jess’s 21st birthday a few weeks ago, I had to wrack my brains for an appropriate outfit. Something cute and as summery as I could get, but still weather appropriate.

#Blogival - How to be a Yogi

As this week's #Blogival instalment, I have been lucky enough to share a guest post by Vimla Lalvani, author of Real Yoga: A Pure and Simple Journey. I've always been interested in yoga and have wanted to learn more about it, so to have the opportunity to hear something from the author themselves on the subject was something I was thrilled to have the opportunity to do.

Sephora Haul

When visiting the United States, it’d be rude not to take a sneaky little trip to Sephora right? So on my recent holiday to Florida, I managed to wangle a trip into the store of beauty bloggers’ dreams. I’d spent a fair amount of time before we flew out researching people’s favourite products, so I had a wishlist of products to search for. As expected, I was slightly overwhelmed by it all, but obviously I came away with a bag full of goodies, which I thought I’d share with you today.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Event

I’m lucky enough to attend various events with the sotonbloggers and when the email dropped into my inbox inviting me to an evening spent with the lovely ladies at Giorgio Armani in my local John Lewis, I couldn’t resist. I’ve never tried anything from Armani’s beauty range, so I was looking forward to seeing what they had to offer and learn a bit more about the brand. When we arrived at the counter, we were greeted by the lovely Kayley and Steph with a glass of Prosecco, a bloggers’ favourite. After a quick mooch around the counter, we were guided over to our little area for the evening, where we were talked through Armani’s summer look.

#Blogival - Fix: Sex, Lies and Banking by Lily Temperley

This month, I am lucky enough to be taking part in the Clink Street Publishing Blogival 2016. Each Wednesday, for the next three weeks, I’ll be talking about a new book, and this week is the turn of Fix: Sex, Lies and Banking by Lily Temperley.

GBK Southampton Launch Night

Ever since I tried GBK, or Gourmet Burger Kitchen, for the first time in Guildford while I was at university, I’ve been desperate for one to open in Southampton. I’d had a fabulous evening with some of my university friends, and wanted to go back for more. And now, finally, my burger prayers have been answered. Adding to the numerous new restaurants opening at Guildhall Square, GBK held its press night last week as it prepared to open, and I was lucky enough to be invited along*.
12736138_10208099982352674_1381561894_n
AnnaJess and myself had a little mooch around John Lewis beauty hall, and then headed up to the new GBK ready for a burger feast. We were greeted by the lovely staff, who were so welcoming and attentive, and were quickly shown to our table. The restaurant is a large room with high ceilings, but decorated in such a manner that it feels relaxed, cosy, and still airy and spacious. Seated in a booth, we had plenty of room, but we could easily giggle and gossip the evening away. Once we’d taken in our surroundings, our minds turned to food and we were not disappointed.

The menu was just as varied as I remembered, with something for everyone. As the name of the restaurant might suggest, burgers are the main focus of the menu, ranging from Classic, to more extravagant toppings, chicken and vegetarian. You have the option to add extras to your burger, like cheese and bacon, and there’s a variety of sides and dipping sauces. If anything, there could be too much choice – it took us all a while to decide what we wanted. You can view the menu here.

In the end, we got some Grilled Halloumi (a discovery I made at Guildford’s GBK), and the Chargrilled Chicken Skewers – which Anna loved! For burgers, I chose the Classic Cheese Burger, with no sides as I remembered how filling GBK’s burgers could be. Jess and Anna chose Skinny Fries and Sweet Potato Fries respectively, and I may have cheekily pinched one or two. We all had Oreo milkshakes, which were delicious. What better dinner than burgers and milkshakes?

All in all, I had a great time, with good food and some lovely company. The atmosphere was so chilled, the food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I can see GBK becoming a regular choice for girly dinners – I can’t wait to head back and try something else on the menu!

Until next time,
Lexie
