Top Beauty Picks of 2017

With the end of another year, it's the start of all the Best of Beauty videos and blog posts across the online community. Safe to say that for the rest of the month I'll be taking in everyone's opinions, hoping to find some new discoveries, and this year I thought I'd throw in my ten cents.

There could be no 2017 favourites without the Jaclyn Hill Morphe palette. Since the first murmurings that this fab lady was releasing an eyeshadow palette, I knew I had to have it. And unsurprisingly, I ordered it on the day it dropped on Beauty Bay. Or should I say I asked anyone who had internet access to do it for me, thanks to me being at work. And the fabulous Tanya managed it. It soon became a staple product, and it's the eyeshadow palette I reach for on a night out. There's an amazing selection of colours, even some that really push me out of my comfort zone. They're blendable, they're pigmented, they're just so beautiful! And with the guru herself using the palette regularly in her videos, there is no reason why I cannot learn to do some real killer looks.

If you read a favourites post I did a little while back, you'll have seen that I fell slightly in love with the L'Oreal Paradise Extatic mascara. It has remained a firm favourite throughout the final months of the year. As expected, I have purchased tube after tube of this mascara. It lengthens, it volumises. Everything you could want from a mascara, and it delivers. It's not often that I stay loyal to a mascara but I think this one will be staying around for a bit longer.

I never thought that a face powder would ever feature in a roundup of a year's favourite beauty products. But this year, I've fallen in love with Rimmel InstaGlam Fix & Matte powder. It's finely milled, and keeps my oily skin at bay. Rimmel have really upped their game, and I'm really impressed.

Now, I'm far from loyal when it comes to foundation - I just haven't found something I have whole heartedly fallen in love with. But the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation ticks the boxes. It wears well over the day and has the amount of coverage that I like (high enough coverage to hide a multitude of sins haha).

In the summer, I finally visited the Covent Garden Charlotte Tilbury store and it was a heavenly trip. I came away with the Eyes to Mesmerise in Marie Antoinette. The colour is gorgeous and it blends beautifully. I've been wearing it recently underneath powder eyeshadows and it looks fab, but it also looks amazing on its own. Might have to purchase a few more shades this year.

The Glossier Balm Dot Com in Birthday Cake is a late entry, as I only started using this at the beginning of December. Safe to say, as soon as I smelt it, I knew I was in love - let alone actually using it. It smells good enough to eat and it's really been helping with my dry lips this winter. I would 100% recommend - can't believe it took me so long to try Glossier!

Another favourite that I carried over from 2016 is my Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop highlighter. I have looked after this product like it's my baby because I've been so scared it would smash, because I don't know if I could live without it. I have probably used this highlighter for 99% of the time I've worn makeup. It's just so good - my perfect colour, without too much glitter, what more could I ask for?

The Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Angelic was not something I ever thought I would purchase, to be honest with you. It seemed quite out there and I think we all know that I like to play it safe. But when I saw it in Selfridges back in the summer, I fell in love and knew I had to buy it. It really reminds me of a Bare Minerals gloss I used to have back in the day. It's sort of holographic, and it changes colour slightly depending on what colour you wear underneath it. I love it and the versatility it offers - one product can create so many different looks. Amazing!

Mac Brave is always a hit with me, but since I started working full time, it's really become something of a staple in my makeup bag. It's just such an easy pinky nude colour to wear, no need to faff with lip liners, no worries about it fading funny, and it goes with everything. It's just so convenient, that I find myself reaching for it day after day after day. And if that doesn't make it a favourite, I don't know what does.

And my last favourite of the year has been the Bobbi Brown Watermelon. When I'm not living the nude lip life, I want something bright and bold that's going to catch your attention. And without fail, that lipstick will most likely be Bobbi Brown Watermelon. It's a gorgeous pinky, orangey, red mix that I think really suits me, and it's super comfortable to wear! I need to try more colours of this formula, see if they're all this comfortable and long-wearing. Unfortunately, I've got a sinking feeling that it's been discontinued - which breaks my heart.

So they're my top beauty picks of 2017 - another combination of old faithfuls and new discoveries. What are some of your favourite beauty picks from last year? I can't wait to see what this year has to offer!

Love Lexie
