This weekend, the lovely Rachel from IllustratedTeacup was nice enough to tag me in the #SelfLoveChallenge13 Tag that has been making its way round the blogosphere. I haven’t been tagged in anything yet – newbie blogger problems – so I was jumping at the chance to give my interpretation of the tag. The concept is simple, you share thirteen things you love about yourself, without worrying about being seen as “selfish” or “full of yourself”. There is nothing wrong with appreciating aspects of yourself, and we should all love ourselves more than we currently do. So without any further ado, let’s jump on in!
1. Fair Hair
Yes, it has its bad days, when it’s a little limp and lifeless, but the majority of the time I love my hair. It does what I want it to – most of the time, at least, and I’m really loving the colour and style at the moment. Admittedly, part of me loving my hair is down to my amazing hairdresser, but at the end of the day, it’s my hair. I grew it. I style it on a day-to-day basis. And I love how it looks.
2. Mesmer’ Eyes
There are so many aspects about my eyes that I love. Their colour – a mix of blue, grey, and a little green – their size, and their shape. I love a bit of winged liner as I’m sure you know, and luckily my eyes suit it. I can do a reasonably good smoky eye without looking like I’ve been punched in the face. They suit my face. And they tend to be the thing I get complimented on the most, which is lovely.
3. Love To Read, Read To Love
I’m sure you all know by now that I love reading. It’s no secret that I’ve always got a book on the go. And the fact that I love to read is something I really value and appreciate. The way I can immerse myself in the world of a novel is something really special. I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t love to read – I certainly wouldn’t have completed an English Literature degree, that’s for sure. No matter what’s going on, I can always read, and for that I’m so grateful.
4. Quiet Time
I like to spend time on my own. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy being around other people, but I also really value quality Lex-time. The opportunity to just sit by myself, and recharge my batteries is something I think everyone needs to do, but I am fortunate enough to like to do this.
5. F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
I am not one of those girls with masses of friends. I prefer to have a few good friends, and a select one or two that I would count as my best friends, that I can really focus my time on. When I’m forming friendships, I want to put in plenty of effort to make my friends feels appreciated and a welcome part of my life. I couldn’t do this with a big group of friends, so I’m glad that I really put in all my effort to ensure that the friends I have always have my back. I love you all!!!

6. Shy Guy
Whenever I meet someone new, I will come across as quiet and shy. I am. It’s not because I’m antisocial or because I don’t want to be there, I just sometimes feel a little intimidated, especially in front of a large group of people. As I’ve shared, I’ve just attended a few blogging events, and I was terrified, and definitely shy. But the blogging girls I’ve met have been amazing, and so welcoming, and slowly but surely, I’m coming out of my shell.
7. I Write Right
I would never have said that I had a knack for writing whatsoever. I was always the English Lit student who definitely preferred to read than write. But having started LifeLoveLexie, I’ve developed my own writing style, and if I’m totally honest, I really like it. I love being able to sit down and babble away – like I’m doing now.
8. Newfound Confidence
Over the past year to eighteen months, my self-confidence has definitely had a bit of a boost. Don’t ask me how or why, because I’m not really sure, but it definitely has. I never imagined that I would commit to writing a blog, or that I would dare to share it with my friends, but that’s what I’ve done. Slowly but surely I’m putting myself into situations I would’ve once found uncomfortable and finding that I can get through them. Sure I’m still self-conscious about certain aspects of myself, but I’m loving this new bit of confidence I seem to have discovered.
9. History Nerd
For my dissertation, I did a lot of research into Plantagenet England (especially Edward IV onwards) and I fell in love with the time period. I love Philippa Gregory’s novels on the time period, and the BBC Adaptation of her writing. Even though my dissertation is finished, I’m still interested in researching the time period, and carrying on with the work I was doing. I love to learn new things.
10. All Made Up
I like how I’ve taught myself to do my makeup. I discovered makeup videos on YouTube in 2012/2013, and became obsessed with watching tutorials. I fell in love with the likes of Tanya Burr, Zoella, and Pixiwoo, and I think I’ve done quite well.
11. Independent Woman
As much as I didn’t love my time at university, I do love how it’s shaped me into the person I am today. I had to become reliant on myself because I was living away from home. Now I’m more comfortable looking after myself and doing my own thing.
12. Live for Loungewear
I won’t lie, I love pyjamas. I prefer to sit around in some comfy loungewear – my favourite set is from Boux Avenue last Christmas, with little owls on. They’re just so comfy, and I think it’s much better than clothes.
13. Listen Well
I think I’m quite good at listening to people if they need someone to talk to. I may not be able to offer the best advice, but I will listen whenever people need me to, which I think is quite often all people need.
So that’s my thirteen things! And now, for my nominations!
