Attending the theatre is something I really enjoy doing, so when the opportunity arose to go and watch
The Addams Family at
The Mayflower Southampton with the
SotonBloggers, I understandably jumped at the chance. With an incredible cast list and some amazing reviews, I had high hopes and I was not disappointed.

With a cast including
Samantha Womack,
Les Dennis and
Carrie Hope Fletcher, all dab hands when it comes to theatre, there was no question that this performance was going to be a good one.
Samantha Womack, better known for her role as
Ronnie Mitchell in
EastEnders, takes on the role of
Morticia Addams. A slight difference from her soap character, there were times I forgot the role she had previously played. Aside from her well-known role in the popular soap, Samantha's stage credits include roles in
South Pacific,
Betrayal and
Guys & Dolls, opposite Patrick Swayze. She was really good - I was thoroughly impressed.

The star of the show in my eyes, though, had to be
Carrie Hope Fletcher as
Wednesday Addams. At just 24 years old, Carrie's theatre credits are truly impressive. In recent years, Carrie has played leading roles in
War of the Worlds, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and
Les Miserables. When I saw that she would be starring in this adaptation of
The Addams Family, I knew we'd be in for a treat. I already knew that her vocals were impressive from her YouTube videos, but hearing them in person was amazing! She also captured the character of Wednesday perfectly, in my eyes, portraying her character's teenage angst really convincingly.

The set design was incredible! As soon as the curtain was raised, I was instantly immersed in the world of
The Addams Family. It had a gothic feel, and was exactly what you'd expect from a production of
The Addams Family, but wasn't harsh or uninviting. It was really well done, and really added to the whole effect of the production!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and was really impressed. I'd never seen the film so wasn't sure what to expect, but I had a great evening. A big thank you, as always, to
The Mayflower Southampton and the
SotonBloggers for inviting me along to see the latest production. I'd really recommend looking into seeing this before it leaves - you can buy tickets via the
Mayflower website
here or via the Box Office by phone on 02380 711811.
The Addams Family will be at
The Mayflower until Saturday 29th July - if you can catch a performance, I'd really recommend it!
