Lush Halloween Haul

I'm a huge fan of the seasonal Lush releases, and Halloween and Christmas are some of my particular favourites. As soon as they launch, I can't help but head to store and stock up, and that is exactly what has happened. I thought I'd share my Halloween buys with you today.

Spookathon TBR

I very rarely participate in readathons, but one I always follow and want to join is the Spookathon, held by Kayla over at BooksandLala. A spooky readathon in the run up to Halloween? Yes please. This year, especially, I have got a real urge to read all my mysteries and thrillers now that autumn has finally arrived, so I thought this year could be the perfect opportunity to participate in the readathon. Spookathon runs from tomorrow (October 14th) until October 20th, and there are five challenges to complete. While I will not be able to read five different books alongside working, I've compiled a list of three books I'd love to get to this week which meet the criteria!

Motown The Musical | Mayflower Theatre

Growing up, my dad was always playing music, and it's safe to say that he has a very varied music taste. Motown was one of the genres that he liked to play - think Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. So when I saw that the music telling the story of the record label was coming to the Mayflower Theatre Southampton, I knew there was no way I could turn down the opportunity to go and watch the show*.

An Inspector Calls | Mayflower Theatre

An Inspector Calls is a play that is familiar with so many people, as it's a popular GCSE text and has been adapted for television. Somehow, though, I have managed to get to my mid-twenties without really knowing the story at all. I had heard the name and knew little snippets but nothing in detail. I was really looking forward to having the opportunity to seeing it onstage at the Mayflower Theatre*.

Recent Reads

It's no secret that I am a huge bookworm and have been reading an impressive amount of books (in my opinion) this year. I've always read a lot, but 2019 has been the best year in a long time. I've already had to move my Goodreads goal once this year, and I'm looking forward to seeing how many more books I can get through before the end of the year. I have decided that I would like to share more of my reading on here, so when I read a few good books, I'll update you on my recent reads. So let's crack on with the books I've picked up since returning from my holiday.

Saturday Night Fever | Mayflower Theatre

Saturday Night Fever - it's a film that everyone knows, even if, like me, you've never sat down and watched it. John Travolta + dancing to hits by The Bee Gees + that iconic white suit, how could you not know the name? Despite not seeing the film, I knew I really wanted to see the stage show when it arrived in Southampton, so I was grateful to be invited to the Mayflower Theatre for press night*.

Rock of Ages | Mayflower Theatre

I will readily admit that deep inside there is 80s rock lover just dying to get out. I've always had a bit of a thing for 80s rock music, mostly due to my dad playing it a lot while I was growing up, and when I was at college I was desperate to see Rock Of Ages when it was released in cinemas. Unfortunately, I never got round to it, but when I saw the musical was coming to the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, I knew I'd have to attend. I was very grateful to receive an invitation to the show for Southampton Bloggers*.

Summer Scents

I love perfume, and finding different scents for the different times of the year. When the weather starts getting a bit brighter and warmer, my perfume taste changes, to a lighter, more floral scent. I've picked out three that are my favourites for this time of year, to point you in the right direction if you're looking for a new scent for summer.

Matilda The Musical | Mayflower Theatre

Matilda is one of those childhood novels that will forever hold a special place in my heart. Written by renowned author Roald Dahl, the novel tells the story of Matilda, a gifted young girl and her relationship with her family and school. When I heard that the stage show adaptation of this classic novel was coming to Southampton, I was over the moon. I was lucky enough to attend the show with the Southampton Bloggers* and couldn't wait to join the others for a night of whimsicalness.

The Bodyguard | Mayflower Theatre

The Bodyguard, the iconic 1992 film featuring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, with some of the most incredible songs. I love the film and when I saw that the story had been adapted for stage, I knew I'd have to watch it at some point. Fast forward a few years, and it hit the stage at the Mayflower Theatre and I was invited along as part of the Southampton Bloggers to review the performance - how could I say no?

Book Haul | May 2019

It's been a while since my last book haul, so another one was well overdue, right? This year, I've fallen back in love with book buying and growing my book collection (I've totally accepted that I'm a collector now), which means I've now accumulated a little collection of books I want to share with you.

The Great Gatsby | Mayflower Theatre

I have loved The Great Gatsby for the longest time - I read it for the first time when I was at sixth form college, and instantly fell in love with the writing and the characters. As well as being a fabulous read, it's been adapted for film, and now it's been turned into a ballet. I went to the ballet (for the first and only time) for my 21st birthday and loved the whole experience. So when I heard that the Northern Ballet were bringing their performance of The Great Gatsby to the Mayflower, I jumped at the chance to watch it*.

Cooking From Scratch | My Experience

If you follow me on Instagram, you may be aware that I have recently started cooking a lot more of our meals totally from scratch. I've ditched the convenience food, hardly ever pick up a jarred sauce, and instead cooking with more fresh ingredients. Last month, I officially rejoined Slimming World, and a big part of that is cooking from scratch. I had always been slightly scared of the kitchen, with very little confidence in my ability, so cooking from scratch has taken some getting used to. But I thought I'd share my experience, to show that if I can step into the kitchen somewhat successfully, anyone can!

Best Books of 2019... So Far! #1

If you follow me on Twitter or Goodreads, you might be aware that I am attempting to read 24 books this year, as part of the Goodreads Reading Challenge. And I'm doing well, even if I do say so myself. In a way to keep track of my reading, I'm sharing every book I read on my Twitter feed, and I thought I'd compile a list of the best books I've read throughout the year on here. So, I'm dividing the year into three parts - January-April, May-August, and September-December - and I'll run you through the five best books I've read so far and give you a short review for each. Hope you enjoy!

Lush Haul | April 2019

It feels like a while since I've had a bit of a splurge in Lush, but on a recent run into town, I couldn't resist popping into store and seeing what they had on offer. I was pleasantly surprised that there were a lot of seasonal offerings and some new releases that I hadn't heard of before, so it came as no surprise to me that I walked out of store with a bag full of new goodies to try.

Hinton Ampner | National Trust

Living on the South Coast, I'm very lucky to be surrounded with lots of opportunities to be a UK tourist. During the gorgeous weather of last year, I really started to explore my local area - the New Forest, wildlife parks, National Trust properties - and was surprised at how many different places I found to visit. This year, I thought I'd share some of my UK tourist destinations and share what is fabulous about them.

Book Haul | April 2019

2019 has been my year for reading so far, having already surpassed the halfway point for my reading challenge for the year. I'm so happy to have gotten my reading mojo back and be loving books again. And with a rekindling of my love of books comes a rekindling of my love affair with bookshops. I just can't help myself - Waterstones is my favourite place. And that means some meaty book hauls - enjoy!

Getting Into Reading Non-Fiction

It's not really any secret that I love reading. So far this year, I've read 11 books since the beginning of the year and I'm really enjoying being back into the swing of reading. However, I tend to only read fiction, usually of a romantic nature (I'm a creature of habit, what can I say?). As part of my quest to read more this year, I would also like to branch out of my comfort zone - trying new genres and reading a bit more non-fiction. Non-fiction is never really anything I pick up, but I know there is some fabulous offerings. So to try and spur me on, I've made a list of ten non-fiction books that I would really like to pick up this year.

Jersey Boys | Mayflower Theatre

Oh, what a night! What more can I say?

Jersey Boys has been one of those hit musicals that I'd heard mentioned time and time again, and thought I'd have to get around to watching it at some point. Despite knowing the name of the musical, I had no idea what the show would actually entail. So, when it was announced that the show was coming to the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, I knew I finally had the chance to see what all the hype was about.

L'Oreal La Petite Palette

I'm a big fan of eyeshadow - always have been. I love collecting new palettes and having a little play around. I've used L'Oreal makeup for as long as I can remember, and when I spotted these mini palettes, I knew I had to add a couple to my collection. How could I resist?

Tested | Lush Haircare

I've been a big fan of Lush bath products for as long as I can remember. Bath bombs, bubble bars, bath melts - I've tried and loved so many! But I've never ventured into their haircare offerings. So when I unwrapped one of my Christmas presents from Stephen, I was surprised to see a bottle of shampoo and conditioning hair perfume. I was intrigued and I think it's safe to say, the boy did well!

Alex Steinherr X Primark Skincare

I've followed Alex Steinherr, award-winning beauty journalist, on Instagram for a while - her stunning feed is full of cosmetic recommendations. So when I heard that she was collaborating with Primark to release a skincare range, I was understandably thrilled. I've never been terribly loyal to skincare - I moisturised every morning, but that's about it (don't hate me!). But at 25, I figured this is the year I need to pull my finger out and start looking after my skin - and the Alex Steinherr X Primark range ticked all the boxes.

Lush Valentines | My Picks

If there's something that Lush does really well, it's a seasonal release! Christmas, Halloween, Mother's Day, Valentine's... they're all very well thought out and I am a sucker when it comes to buying them. Even if I just grab one or two to try, I have to have something. This year is no exception - the Valentine's launches have been fab. So obviously I had to pop into the Southampton store to pick a couple up.

The Girl on the Train | Mayflower Theatre

2018 was a great year for theatre trips, and I had high hopes for 2019. My first show of the year was one that’s been on my to-see list from as soon as I knew it was coming to the Mayflower Theatre. The Girl on the Train gripped me as a book, and then as a film (which admittedly I didn’t love as much), and now it has been turned into a stage show. Knowing the premise of the story, I knew this would be an edge-of-your-seat show, and I was so excited to get the opportunity to watch.

First Book Haul of 2019

As an avid book lover, it surprises me to say that in 2018, I bought myself one book. For the whole year! Now, normally I spend half my life in Waterstones, browsing the shelves and seeing what's new. But for some reason, I just became a bit disinterested in reading last year, only reading ten books all year. This year, I vowed to read more books, and this seems to have reignited my love for a little wander into Waterstones, and just a few short weeks into the year, I've amassed a small stash of new books to add to my bookcase.

A Letter to Myself on my 25th Birthday

Lexie,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! 25 - quarter of a century - how did that happen?! You're like officially a grown-up now, tough luck! I hope you're starting your 25th year with a lie in - what with it being a Sunday and all.

Jaclyn Hill X Morphe Dark Magic Palette

In the summer of 2018, it was announced that Jaclyn Hill was releasing another four eyeshadow palettes with Morphe, called the Vault Collection. I fell in love with the original Jaclyn Hill eyeshadow palette, with it still being one of the palettes I reach for regularly, so when I heard she was releasing 40 more shades, I knew I'd be purchasing. Upon release, I got the purple toned Bling Boss palette, which I fell in love with and knew I wanted another one. That's where Dark Magic comes in.

Five Books I Can't Wait to Read in the New Year

Last year, I told myself I would read more. Unfortunately, it didn't happen... life just got in the way. But this year, I'm going to make a conscious effort to reach for a book instead of my phone, so that I can try and rekindle that love of reading I used to pride myself on. In an attempt to hold myself to this, I've set myself a Goodreads target of 24 books (you can follow me on Goodreads here), and I thought I'd make a list of five books that I'd really like to get to sooner rather than later this year. Fingers crossed it works...

2018 - 2019

As a new year begins, I love looking back at what happened in the year, and then thinking ahead to the new year. 2018 was a pretty good year for me, with more highs than lows thankfully. I'm hoping that 2019 will be just as good - I've got high hopes.

2018 Beauty Favourites

One of my favourite things about coming to the end of a year is looking back at the makeup I've used throughout the year and compiling a list of my absolute favourites. This year, I've done my fair share of hunting out some new beauty bits and rediscovering some of those forgotten things that somehow found their way to the bottom of my makeup bag.
