2018 - 2019

As a new year begins, I love looking back at what happened in the year, and then thinking ahead to the new year. 2018 was a pretty good year for me, with more highs than lows thankfully. I'm hoping that 2019 will be just as good - I've got high hopes.

2018 started off positively with me passing my driving test at long last. I'd been learning off and on for a few years, and was craving that independence that comes with being able to drive yourself around. It really has been a massive confidence boost for me, showing not only in my driving, but also in my travelling without my parents for the first time - something I'd not done before. My sister and I had a gorgeous week relaxing in the sunshine in Tenerife, and it was exactly what I needed come the Easter holidays of my first year of teaching. This girl was frazzled.

It's been a fabulous year in terms of blogging this year. Although I might not have stuck to my resolution to blog more regularly, I have been lucky enough to attend a number of events with the Southampton Bloggers last year. There have been food events, which are some of my favourite (if you know me, you know I love my food), where I had the opportunity to hang out with some of the most inspirational blogging gals in my local area. We've had brunch Vospers in Woolston and Lakaz Maman in central Southampton, eaten dinner at Grosvenor Casino, and had a pizza and cider tasting afternoon at The Stable - all posts for any blogging events will be linked at the end of the post.

As well as food, I've finally stepped foot on a cruise ship to review the new show Astonishing onboard the P&O Britannia. Walking the red carpet - how could that not be year highlight? And of course there have been my numerous trips to the Mayflower Theatre for show reviews. This year, I've reviewed seven shows, and can honestly say I loved them all. My absolute favourites had to be Miss Saigon (so many tears), Wicked and War Horse, but they've all been amazing. It really has been a fabulous year as a member of the Southampton Bloggers.

My ultimate highlight for 2018, though, has to be this guy.

If you'd told me at the beginning of 2018 that I would finally have some Tinder success and fall head over heels for Mr Tall, Dark and Handsome from the New Forest, I'd have probably laughed in your face. Fast forward to January 2019, and we've celebrated our first Christmas together in our own home, and I couldn't be happier. Stephen has put the biggest smile on my face since April, and he made 2018 truly special. We did lots of sightseeing in our local area, and I visited places that I previously hadn't, despite living in Southampton for my whole life. It's crazy what you miss when these things are right on your doorstep. We also spent a few nights in the Midlands, and I loved our little staycation. How could meeting Stephen, and all the adventures we subsequently embarked on, not be my favourite part of the last year.

As for 2019? I have high hopes...

I am determined to commit myself to regular blogging. While I've been off work, I've tried to smash through a stash of blog posts so that I'm ahead of myself. Also, hopefully having blog posts to write will tear me away from the constant scrolling through Instagram and Twitter all evening. Along the same sort of lines, I'm going to read more. At the time of writing this, I'm on the cusp of finishing my first book of the year - yay! Last year, I only read ten books, which for me is not good at all. I've set my Goodreads challenge to 24 books, 2 a month, which I'm hoping is manageable. Life-wise, I'm making the usual promises to eat more healthily, move more and be more organised. I got a diary for Christmas so that should help with the organisation side of things. I just want to make myself a bit more of a priority this year, re-establish that work/life balance that always seems to elude me.

What are some of your highlights from 2018? What are you hoping for in the coming year? I'd love to know.
