A Letter to Myself on my 25th Birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! 25 - quarter of a century - how did that happen?! You're like officially a grown-up now, tough luck! I hope you're starting your 25th year with a lie in - what with it being a Sunday and all.

25 is going to have a lot to live up to you know. 24 was pretty damn good to you. You went on holiday without mum and dad, you completed your NQT year, you met an amazing guy, fell in love and moved in with him. You learnt to drive and got your dream car. You are fabulous - it's high time you really started to believe that you know.

I want you to have faith in yourself - regardless of what that might be about. Work, blogging, your health. At the end of the day, you are the one in the driving seat and you can be a pretty good driver if you let yourself be. If you want to try something different, do it! You're the only one who can change anything about this life of yours. Be confident. Get those big-girl pants on and show everyone who's boss.

Step out of your comfort zone. Travel somewhere exotic and different, try that different food, read that different book. For god's sake, play the PlayStation with Stephen even though you think you're going to be ridiculously crap at it - it'll probably make both of your days. Make the most of each and every opportunity that comes your way.

Keep connected with your girl gang. I know it's hard but you've got yourself a really good group of friends from throughout your "adult" life - the forever besties, the uni buddies, the blogging gals, the workplace pals. They're all fabulous and you need to keep every single one of them around, regardless of circumstances.

Sort out that work-life balance. Working yourself into the ground and having no time for yourself just isn't healthy. At the end of the day, you work to live, not live to work. You work hard, but you also deserve to play hard. Leave work slightly earlier a couple of times a week, try to keep your weekends free for you, and enjoy the downtime. You earn it after all.

Stay true to yourself little lady. I think 24 was the year that you finally started coming into your own and I don't want you to lose that. Wear what you want to wear, read what you want, watch what you want, write about whatever takes your fancy. Everyone will have something to say - some good, some bad - but you have grown a thick enough skin these days to let those comments wash over you.
Enjoy your 25th year, I'm sure it will be a good one.
