Getting Into Reading Non-Fiction

It's not really any secret that I love reading. So far this year, I've read 11 books since the beginning of the year and I'm really enjoying being back into the swing of reading. However, I tend to only read fiction, usually of a romantic nature (I'm a creature of habit, what can I say?). As part of my quest to read more this year, I would also like to branch out of my comfort zone - trying new genres and reading a bit more non-fiction. Non-fiction is never really anything I pick up, but I know there is some fabulous offerings. So to try and spur me on, I've made a list of ten non-fiction books that I would really like to pick up this year.

Everything I Know About Love - Dolly Alderton
This is one I've seen online for ages, and I ummed and ahhed about buying it because I didn't want it to just become an ornament on my bookcase. So when I decided to commit to varying my reading, and I spotted this beautiful paperback in Waterstones on a deal, I finally took the plunge and picked it up. This sounds hilarious and I think the trials and tribulations of falling in love in early adulthood will be totally relatable.

Becoming - Michelle Obama
This was on my list of five books I want to read this year, which you can read here. Surprise, surprise, I haven't gotten to it yet. But I will, definitely. I love Michelle and I cannot wait to read her story.

On The Frontline With The Women Who Fight Back - Stacey Dooley
I fell in love with Stacey Dooley when she appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, she was just such a bubbly, relatable personality. I keep meaning to look up some of her documentaries, which I've heard so many good things about, so when I spotted this on a little wander through Waterstones, I had to pick it up. Full of stories from inspirational women, what more could you ask for from a non-fiction book? I can't wait to be inspired!

The New Fashion Rules - Victoria Magrath
I've loved Victoria and all things InTheFrow for years. When she announced that she was writing a book, I knew that it would find its way onto my bookshelves. Now, I'm not a massive fashion fan - I'm more of a jeans and tee sorta girl - but I do like reading about it.

An Edited Life - Anna Newton
Another offering from one of my YouTube favourites. I've loved Anna and The Anna Edit for as long as I can remember, so it was a given that I would pick her book up. Anna has worked hard over the years to streamline her life, working on decluttering - she's become so well known for her capsule wardrobes! And now she's compiled everything she's learnt into a book, to share the information with us all. I'm always looking for ways to streamline my life so I'm sure I will get some great tips from Anna!

The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*** - Sarah Knight
I remember buying this a while ago, when Marie Kondo first started emerging onto the scene, and I saw this parody and was drawn to it. I know I'm one who takes too much notice of what other people think, and I'd love to give less of a f***. Hopefully, once I've read this through, I'll be able to destress and start taking more control of my life.

This Is Going To Hurt - Adam Kay
This is one that I've seen online quite a bit. It was definitely a purchase influenced by Alice (that girl is reading some amazing books this year). It's a series of diary entries from a junior doctor working in the NHS, and I have a feeling that this will make me laugh, possibly cry, and be really insightful.

I Am Malala - Malala Yousafzai
An influential one to end on. The story of Malala is really well known, and she's a figure of recent history that I've discussed with my class and I'd love to know more about her. I know that her story will be really moving and so interesting, I cannot wait to get to it.

So they are eight non-fiction books that I have on my to-be-read list currently. I'm hoping that a number of these will be ticked off my list at some point this year. 2019 is the year I refresh my reading! You can keep up to date with what I'm reading on my Goodreads.

Do you have any non-fiction recommendations for me? I'd love to add to my list!
